Foilstarr for Paper
Overview
Shine sells decorative paper. Gift wrap, luxury packaging and wedding cards have leveraged glitter and foil for that finish for decades. Glitter is unbound plastic — it sheds through production and use, and it contaminates recycling. And foil is a metallised film bonded down with adhesive, laid across the whole printed area regardless of the design; the rest is waste on every run, and what stays lifts and peels. Either route places plastic on the sheet.
Foilstarr for Paper is applied in three stages. The paste is printed or coated onto the sheet, cured under controlled heat, then fused under uniform pressure. What comes off the line is an even sheen edge to edge, cured into the sheet and holding through converting, printing and handling — and the coated stock still takes ink cleanly. The range runs from soft pearl through to high shine across more than 500 colours.

Foilstarr for Paper
The Challenge
Glitter sheds microplastics through production and from the finished product — it is also subject to an expanding body of legislation restricting it's use.

Metallic foil carries a different cost. The film covers the entire printed area regardless of the design — everything that does not transfer is waste generated on every run. What does transfer is prone to peeling and cracking especially when folded. Both come with significant environmental and functional tradeoffs.
Foilstarr for Paper
The Solution
Foilstarr for Paper is printed or coated, not transferred. It runs through rotary and flat bed screen, through a stencil, by spray or by knife — printed to a design or coated across the full sheet, so the paste goes only where it is wanted. The chemistry is water-based and biodegradable, free of VOCs and microplastics, and certified to ZDHC MRSL v3.1 at Level 3 — the tier covering the full set of production standards ZDHC assesses.

Application, curing and pressure finishing run as three stages on the paper line itself, with no stamping die, no transfer film and no separate decorating operation to set up between them. Colour holds stable across the length of the run, and the finish does not dull or tarnish with age. Soft pearl through to high shine, 500+ colours, matched to reference on request.

Foilstarr for Paper
Foilstarr for Paper
Performance Results
The system was engineered around equipment that is already installed: rotary or flat bed screen, a stencil and spray gun, or a knife coater for application; controlled heat to cure; uniform pressure to finish. And the finish holds: it does not oxidise, dull or tarnish. The same brilliance it that lasts.

Water-Based
Solvent-free chemistry, with no VOCs released on the line
Microplastics
Nothing plastic in the paste or in the finished sheet
Shedding
Fused with the fibre — nothing loose to come off
Converters run it across gift wrap and specialty packaging, event stationery and luxury print, decorative coated paper and board, gifting envelopes and seasonal craft ranges. It is the same decorative effect those categories were built on, without the material that was disqualifying it.
Foilstarr for Paper
Final thoughts
The shine stays. The plastic goes. Foilstarr for Paper cures a metallic finish into the paper itself — no microplastics, no shedding, no metallised film left in the recycling stream, and no dulling or tarnishing with age — printed or coated, cured and pressed on the paper line as it stands.

The shine stays. The plastic goes. Foilstarr for Paper cures a metallic finish into the paper itself — no microplastics, no shedding, no metallised film left in the recycling stream, and no dulling or tarnishing with age — printed or coated, cured and pressed on the paper line as it stands.
